THE
BENEFITS OF WATER
75% of
Americans are chronically dehydrated. In 3% of Americans, the
thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for
hunger. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s
metabolism as much as 3%. One glass of water shuts down
midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a
University of Washington study. Lack of water is the number one
trigger of daytime fatigue! Preliminary research indicates that
8 to 10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back
and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers!
A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy
short-term memory trouble with basic math & difficulty focusing
on the computer screen or on a printed page. Drinking 5 glasses of
water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus
can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less
likely to develop bladder cancer. ARE YOU DRINKING THE AMOUNT OF
WATER YOU SHOULD EVERY DAY? Of course too much water may
have strange side effects.
Fact:
Water is essential for all of your body’s biological processes and
your level of thirst is not a good indicator of how much water your
body needs. Make drinking water a conscious act. Drink a minimum
of 8 eight-ounce glasses every day! Fact: Your body uses more
water in hot & humid and cold & dry climate conditions.
Increase intake as temperature and humidity rises, and in cold, dry
weather. Fact: Your body demands more water when you
exercise. Increase water intake before, during and after you
exercise. Drink extra water when traveling by airplane, car, bus or
train. Drinking water should be a conscious act!
Question: Do you know why water
is good for you? Water helps your kidneys filter
blood & is a key activity of your body. The purification system can operate efficiently
only
if the volume of flowing water is sufficient to carry away the
waste. Try to get at least six to eight glasses of fluids
that are
mostly water: mineral water or hot or iced teas without caffeine
(caffeine promotes water loss) or a little fruit juice mixed in
sparkling water.
